Rooted in Portugal.
Committed to its Natural Future.
Viridia is a conservation support organisation dedicated to strengthening the work of those protecting Portugal's biodiversity. We are not a field organisation. Instead, we act as a trusted link between Patrons and the organisations working on the ground.
Born from passion

Viridia began as a conversation between friends — bound by a shared love of nature, and a shared unease at how quickly it was disappearing. What started as concern became conviction: that halting biodiversity loss in Portugal was not only necessary, but achievable, if the right people came together to make it happen.
Our founding members bring decades of experience across biology, forestry, veterinary science, law, economics, engineering, and governance — voices from research, business, and the NGO world alike, united by one purpose.
Among us are scientists who have spent their careers studying Portugal's biodiversity, holding senior positions at four of the country's leading universities and several international institutions.
Our Approach
Conservation in Action
We believe we have, within our own network, the knowledge to identify where conservation can make the greatest difference — critical ecosystems and species where proven solutions already exist, and simply need the resources to be put into action.
Every project we support is identified, assessed, and monitored by our own members, at no cost to the association. Members closest to the science and the fieldwork help us choose which ecosystems and species most urgently need support, and which approaches will have the greatest impact.
Others, with backgrounds in finance and management, help ensure that the organisations we fund are best placed to use that support well.

100% of donations go directly to conservation.

“There is simply no issue more important. Conservation is the preservation of human life on earth, and that, above all else, is worth fighting for.”
